■「Records of how a thatched roof was restored」(60min)

In 2008, Yaneharu had the pleasure of fully restoring the thatched roof an old vacated private house
that was the birthplace of the owner, Mr. Kishigami. Like many rural homes in Japan, the original
thatched roof of this long-standing house had been covered in corrugated iron. Yaneharu undertook
the task of stripping back the metal and old thatch and then newly thatching the entire roof.
It is hoped the images will show how re-thatching a roof is an integral part of community life, and,
as such, enriches the local region, which is one of those wonderful sights to behold in Japan.

Records of Yaneharu’s training in the UK to further broaden his thatching knowledge
While in the UK, Yaneharu learned the art of British thatching, and absorbed the UK thatching
culture.
As well as learning about UK thatching, Yaneharu also is interested in other European countries that
are leaders in the world of thatching, and he hopes to apply the knowledge to be found in those
countries to the task of sustaining Japanese thatching.
